Recession brings online window shoppers instead of buyers

Just like you go window shopping instead of really shopping during this recession, online people go window shopping too.
They visit your site, look at pages and are attracted by the pricing pages. The pricing page works like a magnet, they seem to find it much more interesting than the pages with benefits or features.

Online window shoppers because of recessionWhy online window shoppers?

Currently people are afraid to get fired.
Thus instead of taking initiatives and making decisions, they stick with what they have. Taking a decision always comes with a risk.

Management and employees prefer to hold back and remain on a survival mode:
They are holding on to their chair at their desk and try to stick with the methods of working they had before. Flying under the radar is safer for the moment.

At the same time budgets are tight. Spending is limited. Experimenting with new or alternative solutions is almost prohibited.
Therefore all companies keep doing what they have been doing before: walk on the treaded path ways and keep on using what they have been using before.

Window shopper will change into buyers

Change will come once the economy and business picks up again. Then company management will revisit their decisions as at that moment they need to take decisions in a short amount of time in order to jump on the new wave of rising business.
Different or new solutions will be selected if these seem more appropriate, better suited or bring a higher benefit – cost ratio.

Thus your current online window shoppers can become your future leads and potential customers.
Two options:
- You must make sure they remember your online presence or solutions offered. Be remarkable.
- You can identify and track them. Once the economy and business re-launches you have to contact them.

Do you window-shop online for better times?

  • Jay says:

I am guilty on doing window shop because my initial reaction when seeing a shop especially when it is a well known shop, is i cant afford to buy stuff their. Same thing online, So i guess more creative advertising might help or getting those people who are visiting the site and calling them back when such promo and discounts are available.
