Traditional advertising becomes obsolete and marketers become entertainers
Traditional marketing channels and methods are changing. PR, advertising, email marketing and even websites that have been bringing news and information are decreasing in effectiveness. This brings on tremendous marketing challenges.
Where people were previously interested in product announcements, advertising, emails and websites, nowadays you need to bring entertainment in order to capture the attention of the audience.
The time of advertising and promoting is long over. An ad about your product or service is no longer. Your ad needs to stand out and be entertaining. Like a funny purple cow.
If the audience is not listening then your message or announcement isn’t even heard. In this world with an overwhelming amount of message broadcasting you only stand a chance if there is a factor of entertainment included.
This brings two new challenges for marketing:
1) Create, generate and broadcast entertaining messages that evoke emotion
2) Continue to keep and build the attention by a stream of entertaining messages
This leads to all marketers becoming full-time entertainers to please their audience in order to keep their attention for interest and awareness.
