The Internet is all about trust and authority. In order to have a measure for these the search engines can rely upon references, mentions and links as these are expressions of trust and authority expressed by other people creating content on the Internet.
If your website, webpages or digital content (white papers, presentations,…) isn’t getting referenced then their value is considered as lower or nil.
Hence it is utmost important to get your digital content mentioned and linked. The more trustworthy the source linking or mentioning your digital content the higher value it will have too.
How getting linked or mentioned
In order to get mentioned or linked you need to have outstanding, very specific, innovating or disrupting content which makes it worth mentioning or referencing by others. So the quest for ranking higher on the search engines result pages is to create content that draws the attention, imagination and if possible is entertaining too.
Quality over quantity
Hence it is not the quantity of your content that will make the real difference, but the quality. How outstanding, specific, innovating or disrupting is your content.
When creating new content ask yourself before publishing if it has superior value. If not maybe you better rework the content until it becomes quality content worth linking or mentioning.
If your marketing content is just average or even poor and nobody references to it then you are dying in digital marketing. So instead of the effort of generating poor or average content it might be better not to create it as it is a waste of time and effort. You can better invest your time in taking more time to create valuable outstanding content that will be linked or mentioned. If you aren’t capable the forget about digital marketing and invest your time in activities having a better return on investment for your time and effort.
